I have been re watching Zoids, all of the series and a lot of Gundam, mainly Zeta, Wing, G, Mobile Suit Gundam (The original granddaddy series), Seed/Seed destiny, and Unicorn. While I was watching these I have noticed something that I think no one but mainly a few may have, its been on my mind for weeks. Zoids has borrowed a lot of references and homages to its cousin franchise.

Naomi Fluegel's title is the Red Comet which is the same title and is a confirmed homage to Char Aznable of Mobile Suit Gundam.
The fact that almost every main rival Zoid of the protagonist is some form of red such as Raven's Zaber fang, the Genosaur from Guardian Force, The Geno Breaker Leon's Blade Liger, Naomi's Gun Sniper, Bio Volcano, Zarin's Bio MegaRaptor, again much like Char Aznable's color scheme of choice with his Mobile Suits since he's the rival of Amuro Ray.

The fact that the protagonist must fight a over sized Mech that's clearly four or five times the size of his Zoid at either the middle or towards the end of the series.
In Gundam this is almost a staple, Psycho Gundam, Psycho Gundam MK II, Big Zam, Destroy Gundam, are some examples of giant size Mechs that the protagonist must fight either in the middle, or towards the end of each series.

Liger Zero's famous Strike Laser Claw might be based off of God/Burning Gundam's Erupting Burning/God Finger.
Both Mechs use this as their iconic finisher moves plus New Century Zero, like G Gundam is a tournament anime, might be a stretch or it may not be either way.

Zeke's original Japanese name was Siege, it may not sound like anything from Gundam but Zeon's famous phrase was "Siege Zeon!", and since Zeon was based in Germany, and there's A TON of German names in Zoids it kinda makes one wonder a bit.

Also Zoids crossed over into the Gundam franchise as well with the likeness of the BuCue and its variations and also the new up coming Gundam one hundred with its Mobile Armor mode looking almost strikingly like that of a Liger or a Liger Zero.

These were just some of my ideas I came up with while I was watching these animes and when I was looking up my research for this stuff and I just wanted to get them out. ^^

The main reason, I believe is that artists borrow from each other. What's good for one series may he great for another. Red also tends to be symbolic (eg. Rage, blood, luck) it also makes a striking contrast against most natural backgrounds. A size difference also makes the battle seem more intense. Lots of video games make the final boss a huge brute.
